Hero Spotlight: Haylee "Today, I see myself and my breasts as enough"

What is a big challenge you had in the past and what did you do to overcome it?

A huge challenge I had to face in the last few years was learning that I had breast implant illness and FDA recalled breast implants. It was definitely a painful process to make peace with the fact that I needed to get my implants out and heal my body and my mind. I ended up creating a community called The Committee in the process of getting my implants out where we celebrate small boobs and talk about confidence and therapies that help heal body image. I ended up using humor as a way to celebrate being a part of the itty bitty titty committee again, and I found that there is a huge community of women who want to connect and share the struggles they face with body image.
How do you see yourself today? Has it changed from when you were younger?

Today, I see myself and my breasts as enough. Don't get me wrong, it is still a journey and I couldn't do it without honesty with myself, EFT Tapping, and other therapies that keep my mind in the right place. I've changed a lot since I was younger, I think confidence comes as you age but I also think modifying my body and trying to "fix" it really taught me a lot. When my implants (that I bought to be confident) failed me, I then had to look within and find myself in a new way. I am much more resilient and confident in who I am compared to my sweet younger self who tried to find confidence in breast implants, thank goodness :)

If you could, what advice would you give to your younger self?

I don't think I would have stopped my younger self from getting implants, I think it was a journey I needed to take. I am not sure my younger self would listen if I told her much of anything, but I would tell her to not worry. Not to worry about finding a boyfriend or being enough. I think I'd also remind her that the prettiest girls are the ones that are having the most FUN, not the girls worried too much about how they look or getting their hair wet in the rain.

What mantra/quote/word do you try to live by that has helped you on your journey?

I have so many affirmations but I love "It is impossible that my breasts define my worth." It really is impossible!
